Do a Thesis with Us

Master's Thesis

We supervise master theses (MSc and MAS) and semester theses (e.g. BSc MAVT) that are related to the field of Technology and Innovation Management and fit to our main research areas. Students are also invited to propose their own topics, and it is possible to write the thesis in close collaboration with a particular company.

Please note, to write a MSc thesis with us, you must have taken or be currently enrolled in the course Technology and Innovation Management (Fall semester).

Choosing a topic

Students can apply for an available thesis project or define their own topic.

Available thesis projects

We currently have the following thesis projects available at our Chair:

Choose your own topic

If you already have a topic in mind or are looking for something different than the current calls, you can apply with your own thesis topic as long as it fits ongoing research at our chair. To get an idea of the topics the group works on, please have a look at individual profiles of our team or check out some past theses written at our group (below).

To apply with your own topic, you will need to write a research proposal that outlines your topic, existing literature, empirical strategy, and relevance for the field. Please use this Download template (PDF, 124 KB) or integrate this structure into your own document. To find literature on your topic, we recommend you look for papers in the following journals: Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, Academy of Management Journal, Research Policy, Strategy Science, and California Management Review.

For MAS students we suggest finding literature that provides you with a potential framework or model which can support your research. For MSc students an overview of literature is needed to identify where and how your topic addresses current open questions in the field of Technology and Innovation Management.

Applying for a thesis project

Depending on whether you apply for an available project or with your own topic, we ask you to send us the following information to :

  • A brief motivation statement explaining which project you are applying for and why you are interested in this project.
  • Your CV
  • Your grade transcripts
  • If you are a MSc student, whether you have taken or are currently enrolled for the Technology and Innovation Management course.
  • Research proposal (as outlined above)
  • Your CV
  • Transcript of your grades
  • If you are a MSc student, whether you have taken or are currently enrolled for the Technology and Innovation Management course.

Please note that applications without a research proposal for a self-chosen idea or motivation statement for a published thesis call will not be considered.

What happens next?

Within two weeks, we will give you an answer of whether we will move forward with your application or not. If we see a fit with our research (and have the current capacity), we will organize a quick 15-30 min. call with you to discuss how to further improve your research proposal. Once you have successfully implemented the feedback and finalized your proposal, you can start your thesis with us.
